TED Talks To Improve Your Social Life

I have always thought that if I have not taken my Bachelor Degree in Marketing and Advertising, I could see a career in Psychology; I remember that some of my favorite subjects in College were related to the area. Overthinking and analyzing a lot, yes that’s my way of life.

I love watching or just listening to TED Talks, because I learn and sometimes it´s good for my ego to act cool around my friends and know that I have been doing something not in the wrong way (laughs). I have a full list of great TED Talks, but this time I selected two that I believe that are the best to help people connect better with each other, isn’t that why we are here for? By the end of the day when we are in the comfort of our beds just before falling to sleep, all we want is to go back to that good link we have had with someone during the day, because connecting with others helps us connect better with ourselves and get going with our own goals.

So, here it goes:

1. How To Have A Good Conversation

“We are not listening to each other” is just a quote that I took from this conference.

Remember the last time that you had a good conversation with someone? Celeste Headlee talks about how to get out of the basics like “the weather and healthy”.

A study shown by her points that we are more divided then ever due to the internet, we are closed to make big decisions. Celeste gives tips on how to have conversations in a better way that goes beyond looking people in the eyes, nod or summarize what they are saying.

Some quotes that I took from this conference:

“Everybody is an expert in something.”

“Be interested in other people.”

2. Reading Minds Through Body Language

“How many of you would like to be mind readers?”

If you ever ask me this question, my answer would be “No, thank you”. Sometimes I feel awkward with what goes in my own mind so I cannot imagine knowing literally exactly what goes in the mind of other people before they filter the words that are going to share with the rest of the world.

I think as this time we can say that it's pretty much impossible for a human to “read a mind” regardless of what any movie has tried to show us (I am talking about you Taraj P. Henson in 2019 What Men Want, great movie by the way) we can still learn some tricks to understand what the other part/person can be really trying to communicate with us. Our bodies are phenomenal communicators.

So, last but not least Lyyne Franklin teaches us how to connect better with people in this conference.
