The first time I have read an entire text in English I was only 9 years old, nowadays non-English kids start having this opportunity much younger, don’t get me wrong I have always enjoyed my favorite cartoons and most of them were is English but, being really curious it started at that age.
My favorite subject in School used to be English so, is not a surprise that I always got good grades and I even was the Assistance for some Teachers. Growing up, I felt the need in making a difference using my knowledge in the language (literally my only talent) so back in June I challenged myself to teach young girls, English, for free. I mean, I am young but I felt old enough to use a talent in my advantage and others. I was feeling stuck in life, talentless, so pretty much that was the only thing that I remember doing well.
Casa da criança Madre Maria Clara is the place chosen for the kick starts of the project. For my lucky their girls were really in the need of a new tutor so it was perfect, they had the equipment all I had to do was to prepare the classes and start, it's a piece of cake, right? I got insecure and start second guessing myself and even postponed a few weeks because I was never ready, or so I thought.
The class consists in 15 girls aged 11 – 16 years old, I had a safe, comfort and close to home place for the lesson and everything else that I needed so all I had to do was to start, it’s rare when things just seen to easily fall on part that’s is why even know my fears I had to take an advantage on my good season.
The project is to teach easy and funny ways of learning English, just like I had when I was younger because I always got asked by my friends and people who try all kinds of courses around on “how I did it” most of them complained that even know they took one or more classes they felt like they were still not satisfied with their level.
I have been doing this for the past two months now and I have to say that it was hard at the beginning because it was something new that I really wanted to do but, after the second class the curriculum just designed itself for the rest of the first part of the project.
Right now I teach the girls using support of videos/music lyrics (the ones they like such as Now United, a really Gen Z thing), movies subtitles, their daily routine activities and surrounds, some apps and a whole lot of creativity.

On the past 6th of October, I invited my good friend Eugénia Ismael that speaks very well English and it’s also a Tutor to join us and teach the girls. It was a new experience to all of us and I intend to keep doing this, inviting those who show interest on my program and the girls.
I am really starting to like teaching, and now everything around me turns into a new idea for the next lesson. Although I am the one teaching them English I can also say that I have been learning each day so I can say that I am really happy tutoring and mentoring, can’t wait to see what the future holds for me and the girls.
